Donor Management
It is important the surgeon doesn’t overharvest the area where the transplants are extracted leaving it overly thin and unnatural in appearance.
9 /10
The clinic chose an appropriate graft number considering the age and the hair loss degree of the patient. Furthermore the donor seems to be properly harvested and no scars are visible in the extraction area. A final assessment based on the available photos of the extraction area was possible.
Hair Line Aesthetic & Design
Doctors should design an aesthetically pleasing, natural and age appropriate hairline for their patient.
10 /10
A conservative hair line was chosen. The hairline will still appear age appropriate in the future and grafts will be saved for future surgeries. A natural hair line has dominantly single grafts as in this case. The photos are sufficient for a final assessment of the hair line aesthetic and design.
Treatment & Method Appropriateness
The doctor should be able to assess the patient’s hair loss for the most suitable method, e.g. FUE or FUT.
9 /10
In the present case it seemed to be that the FUE method is suitable. The FUE method is optimal for smaller graft numbers and has the advantage that no large scar is created as with the FUT method. To increase the possibilities of a successful, lasting result it is necessary to take hair loss medication like minoxidil and finasteride. However, the patient is apparently not treating its hair loss with medication.
Density
In order to achieve a visual sufficient density usually 30+ grafts per cm² need to be transplanted.
8 /10
The density appears to be sufficient and the transition between the transplanted hair and native hair is smooth and not visible.
Doctor Involvement
The more involved a doctor is involved in the surgery process, the better the quality and consistency a patient can expect.
9 /10
The hair surgeon conducts the pre- and post-consultation as well as the extraction of the grafts. He also does the opening of the channels in the recipient area. Insertion of the hair follicles are done by technicians. This normally ensures consistent and reliable results.

Patient Journey
1
A Long Road to the Decision
Hair loss is something many men have to face at some point in their lives. For me, the struggle with receding hair began in my late twenties. At first, it was just slightly receding corners at my forehead, but year after year they kept creeping back. I tried different hairstyles, hairspray, hair fibers, and, of course, caps to cover the bald spots. Every look in the mirror became a small moment of frustration. My dissatisfaction with my appearance started affecting my self-confidence. I began avoiding certain lighting conditions, photos, or even outdoor activities on windy days. The thought of a hair transplant kept crossing my mind – but many questions remained: How natural would the result be? Is the procedure safe? Where can I find a clinic I can trust?
Despite reading countless forums, watching videos, and browsing comparison portals, I hesitated for a long time. The fear of an unnatural result, pain, or disappointment held me back. It wasn’t until my brother’s successful experience with a transplant that my attitude fundamentally changed.
2
My Brother’s Life-Changing Experience
The turning point came when my older brother stood before me one day with visibly fuller hair. He had undergone a hair transplant in Turkey – arranged through the agency Health Travels. I was honestly surprised by how natural his results looked. The hairline didn’t look artificial or obvious. No visible scars, no signs of surgery – just fuller, healthier hair. Of course, I wanted to know everything: What was the process like? Was it painful? Was he happy with the results? How did he feel now?
His answers were all positive. He especially praised the organization by Health Travels, who supported him from the initial consultation to the surgery and follow-up care. The clinic – the Dr. Hakan Clinic in Istanbul – was modern, the team highly professional, and the care very respectful. What convinced me most was when he said: “I would do it again anytime.”
That was the moment I seriously considered taking this step myself. I now had a real reference from someone close to me – not just anonymous reviews online. That gave me confidence – and the courage to finally take action.
3
First Contact with Health Travels – Planning and Trust
After my brother shared his experience in such detail, I mustered the courage and contacted Health Travels myself. I emailed Clemens Weber – without big expectations, just hoping for honest information. Shortly after, I received a detailed response. I was asked to send photos of my current hair situation so they could provide a personalized assessment. I did so, and a few days later I got thorough feedback.
The reply included not only a realistic assessment of my hair loss but also a digital draft showing what my new hairline could look like. I also received a clearly structured overview of the treatment process, the method used (DHI), details about the clinic and the doctor, and a transparent cost estimate. What convinced me most: there was no sales pressure – just honest, factual advice.
This first conversation built trust. I felt taken seriously, not like a customer, but like a person with a genuine concern. That was when I knew: if I do this, it will be with Health Travels and the Dr. Hakan Clinic in Istanbul.
4
Why I Chose the Dr. Hakan Clinic
After the positive interaction with Health Travels and the detailed feedback, I decided on the Dr. Hakan Clinic in Istanbul. What convinced me most was the clinic’s specialization in hair transplants and Dr. Hakan’s many years of experience. I read numerous reviews and personal reports, most of which spoke of professional procedures, excellent results, and a pleasant atmosphere. One important point for me was the use of the DHI (Direct Hair Implantation) method, which doesn’t require a full shave – a major advantage for my day-to-day life after the procedure.
The all-inclusive package offered through Health Travels made the decision easier. From the first consultation and scheduling to flights, transfers, hotel, and aftercare – everything was included. I didn’t have to worry about anything, which saved me a lot of stress. The prospect of staying in a high-end hotel with the clinic in the same building added another layer of security.
Compared to prices in Germany, the offer in Turkey was significantly cheaper – with the same, if not higher, standard. So in the end, the decision was easier than expected: I would have my hair transplant in Istanbul – at the Dr. Hakan Clinic.
5
Arrival in Istanbul – First Impressions
Together with my brother, I traveled to Istanbul. The flight from Düsseldorf took about two and a half hours – short enough to not be exhausting, but long enough to feel the nerves building. At the airport, we were welcomed by a driver as promised, who kindly took us straight to the hotel. The Marriott hotel was modern, very clean, and provided the level of comfort you’d want before a medical procedure.
One major benefit was the location: the Dr. Hakan Clinic was in the same building – just a few floors below our room. This meant short distances, maximum calm, and a familiar environment. After checking in, we spent the afternoon relaxing. I reflected on the journey, reviewed all the information again, and absorbed the atmosphere. The procedure was getting closer – but the overall setup made me feel secure and well taken care of.
That evening, my brother and I talked again about the upcoming surgery. His confidence was contagious. We went to bed early because the next morning, it was time. The alarm was set for 7 a.m. – and I was ready for this big step.
6
The Day of the Hair Transplant
The morning of the surgery started early. At exactly 7 a.m., my brother and I made our short walk to the clinic. The anticipation grew even in the elevator. At the Dr. Hakan Clinic, we were warmly welcomed. The atmosphere was calm, the staff friendly and focused. I was taken to a consultation room where Dr. Hakan himself and Clemens Weber from Health Travels were already waiting.
We calmly reviewed all the details again: the number of grafts, the planned hairline, the technique, the procedure. Dr. Hakan used a special pen to draw the planned hairline. We took our time to make small adjustments – my wish was for a natural curve, without a harsh edge or overly deep line. Once we finalized the design, I gave my consent.
I was then given surgical clothing, and my brother said goodbye for the time being. The next few hours I would spend in the team’s hands. I was nervous, but the professional environment and structured approach made me feel safe and well prepared.
7
Local Anesthesia and Graft Extraction
The procedure began with local anesthesia. I had opted for what’s called twilight sedation – a light sedative that ensures you’re not fully aware during the anesthesia injections. Especially in the forehead area, these injections can be quite unpleasant, so I was glad to essentially sleep through this part. When I came to, the anesthesia was already fully in effect.
I was then brought to the operating room, where the extraction of the grafts began. The donor area at the back of my head had been shaved – just a narrow strip that would later be almost invisible under my remaining hair. The medical team worked with great precision. I felt nothing – just soft background music and the gentle murmur of the team.
At any time during the extraction, I could request a break. The whole process was designed to be very patient-friendly. Everything was professionally organized, and every movement felt well-rehearsed. After about two hours, the extraction was complete – time for a short break before the next step.
8
Implantation – Precision Work Under the Microscope
After a brief rest, the second major part of the surgery began: implanting the extracted hair follicles. This step requires extreme precision. The prepared grafts – several thousand in total – were now inserted one by one into the recipient areas. The team paid close attention to the growth direction, the natural flow of the hairline, and even density.
I lay in a relaxed position and could even talk to the team or listen to music. There were breaks to have a drink or use the bathroom. The atmosphere was calm, and everyone worked with focused precision. It didn’t feel like a rushed medical procedure – more like a meticulous craft.
The DHI method uses a special implanter that allows channels to be opened and grafts to be placed in a single step. This results in less trauma to the tissue and a more natural appearance. After several hours of concentrated work, it was done – all grafts were placed. Now, the healing phase could begin.
9
The First Look in the Mirror – Post-Surgery
Once the implantation was complete, I was allowed to look in the mirror. Of course, the scalp was slightly swollen and red, but the new hairline was clearly visible. It was an emotional moment – after years of progressive hair loss, a new future was now visible. The team explained the next steps: what medication to take, how to care for the scalp in the coming days, and what to watch out for. I received a folder with all the information, a special neck pillow for sleeping, and a small set with shampoo and lotion.
Naturally, I was a bit tired after the procedure, but the joy outweighed everything. My brother and I returned to the hotel, where we spent a quiet evening unwinding.
10
Partial Shave Instead of Full Shave – A Big Advantage
One of the reasons I chose the DHI method was the option for a partial shave. While the traditional FUE method often requires shaving the entire head, here only a narrow strip at the back of the head was shaved. This meant the rest of my hair remained intact – and I could style it in a way that concealed the treated area. Especially in everyday life, at work, or in social situations, this was a huge benefit. During the transition phase – as the redness subsides and the hair grows back – a partial shave is far more discreet.
11
The Return Flight – Caution and Preparation
The next morning, I flew back home. I was careful with every movement and protected my head with the provided pillow. Although I didn’t feel any pain, I was aware that the freshly implanted grafts were sensitive. At the airport, I avoided crowds and took care not to bump into anything. I flew back to Germany with a calm and confident feeling. At home, the crucial aftercare phase began – with daily cleaning and diligent care.
12
Healing Process in the First Two Weeks
The first few days after the surgery were marked by healing. Scabs formed on the scalp – a completely normal process. I strictly followed the care instructions: daily application of lotion, gentle washing, lots of patience. After about ten days, the scabs started to fall off slowly. It was important not to scratch or force the process. The new follicles were still sensitive. After two weeks, most scabs were gone, and the first small stubbles appeared on the scalp.
13
Shock Loss – A Temporary Setback
About three weeks after the transplant, most of the newly implanted hairs fell out again – a phenomenon known as shock loss, which is entirely normal. Even though I had been warned, it was still a strange experience. I had just gotten used to my new hairline – and suddenly it was gone again. But I realized: it’s only the hairs, not the roots, that fall out. The real growth happens below the surface, and the hair would grow back stronger over time.
14
Week 6 – First Visible Changes
Six to eight weeks after the procedure, I saw the first new hairs starting to grow. At first, they were fine and thin, but they showed that the follicles were active. With each passing day, the hairs became more visible, and I cautiously began styling my hair again. Even though it wasn’t the final result, every little step forward was motivating.
15
Three Months Later – Clear Progress
Around the three-month mark, the changes were clearly noticeable. The new hair had become stronger and started to blend in with the existing hair. I was able to visit the barber and adjust my hairstyle. The transition between old and new hair became more seamless. My self-confidence grew with every glance in the mirror.
16
Month Four to Five – A New Me Emerges
In the fourth and fifth months, my appearance began to change noticeably. The density of the hair increased significantly, and I could style it as usual again. Daily grooming was no longer about hiding bald spots, but an expression of my new satisfaction. Friends and colleagues noticed the change – without knowing exactly what had happened.
17
Six Months Post-Op – Interim Conclusion
Half a year after the hair transplant, I was ready to draw a first real conclusion. My once bald areas were now almost completely covered with strong, healthy hair. The hairline looked like it had always been there. I took comparison photos, and the difference was striking. The combination of a professional procedure, solid aftercare, and my consistent care was paying off.
18
How Does the New Hair Feel?
Besides the visual success, it was important to me how the hair felt – and I can say clearly: it’s my hair. It grows, can be washed, blow-dried, and styled – completely naturally. I can feel it; it moves like my old hair. There was no foreign body sensation – just a regained piece of normality.
19
My Conclusion and Recommendation
Today, six months after the procedure, I can say: the hair transplant was the right decision. I’ve regained not just my hairline, but also my self-confidence. For anyone struggling with hair loss and considering a transplant, I can warmly recommend the Dr. Hakan Clinic and the organization through Health Travels.
I would do it again anytime.
