Patient Journey

0. General Information

I am 36 years old and have hair loss for 18 years now. My family situation is such that I have less hair than my father and my two brothers (although I am younger). I tried several medications and stayed with minoxidil and finasteride. Finasteride every now and then, finally about three quarters of a year before the operation I quit finasteride which resulted in a clear progression of my hair loss.

1. Before Hair Transplant

Since the operation I have been taking finasteride again, but less than before. I am married and have 4 children, but I was still bothered by my hair situation. Simply I am not comfortable when looking in the mirror. I have a creative profession and can therefore wear a cap 90% of the time, which does not bother me. Nevertheless, I would like to walk around more without. Baldness is for me not an option, because in my opinion I simply do not have a bald face ;) So, since the hair loss continued to progress, a solution had to come. The only solution was a hair transplant. A few years ago, I had already thought about it and informed myself, but there I neither had the money nor felt it was necessary. This time I googled much and quite quickly fell the choice on Turkey for 2 reasons: 1) The budget 2) It seems in contrast to Germany that Turkish doctors have more experience. Finally, I had then several clinics in my final selection. But I only got 2 offers. The offers were for 3000-3500 grafts, the price was very different. Nevertheless, I decided for the more expensive variant with Dr. Demirsoy. Mainly this had 2 reasons: I was very impressed with the results. What was just as important to me, however, was that with Mr. Weber from Health Travels, I had an expert at hand, who is not only sympathetic, but also super competent. He handled the entire process. With him you do not have the feeling (in contrast to the other discussions) that you get something sold, rather he really cares about you and your hair. So, my decision was made pretty quickly.

2. Surgery

I had the surgery after Christmas on 29.12.2020. I chose the date especially because I have time for recovery and healing. The complete organization was done by Health Travels, only the flight I had to book myself. I was picked up directly at the airport and transferred to the hotel. The evening before the surgery, Mr. Weber visited me at the hotel to discuss the last details of the surgery and to help me recover. And to take away my nervousness ;) So, I felt quite relaxed with regard to the surgery. The next morning, I was met by a (also German speaking) colleague of Mr. Weber who then drove me to the clinic. He himself had already had a hair transplant whose result was really appealing. Once on site, the paperwork was done and then the hairline was discussed with the doctor. Dr. Demirsoy was very sympathetic and seemed very competent, yet I was happy that Mr. Weber and his colleague were there to confirm the hairline again. Throughout the day, one of the two was directly with me to keep me constantly up to date. Then it was time for the extraction of the grafts. First you get injections in the back of your head, which is a bit unpleasant, but then it passes quite quickly. You don't really notice anything about the subsequent extraction, the incisions of the canals and the placement of the grafts. Nothing at all! It is great that you are the only patient on the day, i.e., the doctor performs the hair transplant himself. The surgery is much less painful than you think it will be. At the same time, you can listen to music or be on your cell phone. In between you can also go to the bathroom. There is also a short lunch break, during which food is organized. At about 5pm the surgery was over. Towards the end, however, I was glad when it was over. But it is more because it is simply exhausting to lie still all day.

3. After the Hair Transplant

During the night I slept not so well, not because of the pain (I had hardly any pain, only about 2 hours), but rather because of the sleeping position, which is rather uncomfortable. One should only sleep elevated and with a neck pillow. The next day I had my first head wash and a follow-up examination. The doctor was very pleased with the result, even though he said that I had quite fine hair and it would take a few grafts. And it could have been a few grafts more. Nevertheless, he said that it was a very good result. At the end, photos are taken and a final talk with the doctor. Then I flew back to Germany. In the next few days, I took walks and rested a lot. I kept the sleeping position until the 6th day, which I found quite uncomfortable, since I am Side sleeper am, but even that went around ;) I used the lotion every day and also did the scalp wash daily. I had slight problems to get the crusts down, with light rubbing I was able to get rid of them on the 12th day they were completely off. On the 12th day I was able to go back to work normally and was again fully socially acceptable. Since the 12th day, I have also been wearing a cap again at work, so that my HT has so far remained completely unnoticed.

4. Preliminary Conclusion

I am so far very satisfied with my care and with my choice of doctor. Mr. Weber is available at all times and responds quite quickly to all questions and concerns. One feels completely cared for and in good hands. Without this care I probably would not have had the hair transplant done in Turkey. The preliminary result also looks really good, I am curious how it will develop in the next months...
